Ryanair unveils new domestic routes
Ryanair has announced two new routes between London Stansted and Scotland as part of an extended 2014 winter schedule.
The new services, to Edinburgh and Glasgow, will both operate three times daily, starting on October 26.
Flights go on sale tomorrow at fares from just £19.99, which Ryanair says are almost half of BA’s and 40% cheaper than Easyjet’s.
"These routes are in response to strong demand from our UK customers, in particular UK business travellers, and domestic routes are an important part of our strategy," said chief marketing officer Kenny Jacobs.
"This is a clear demonstration of the role that Stansted will play over the coming years in meeting demand for increased connectivity."
But the announcement was bad news for Prestwick Airport as it means Ryanair will switch some of its Prestwick flights to Glasgow International.
Its once daily flight from Prestwick to Dublin will switch to Glasgow International and will increase to three times daily.
The airline said it will continue to fly seven routes from Prestwick over the winter months and said it "remains committed" to its long-standing base there.
Ryanair is now the only scheduled passenger airline operating at Prestwick, which was bought by the Scottish government for £1 last year.
The two new Scotland routes from Stansted join 10 other new winter routes from the London airport to Athens, Basel, Bordeaux, Bucharest, Cologne, Perpignan, Podgorica, Prague, Rabat and Skelleftea.
