Rydges adds World Square property in Sydney
Rydges Hotels and Resorts has expanded its Australian portfolio, rebranding the former Avillion Hotel at prestigious World Square in central Sydney, with the 445-room hotel – now known as Rydges World Square (formerly Avillion Hotel), becoming the 36th property for Rydges.T
he hotel, comprised of two eight-level towers, is centrally located at the corner of Pitt and Liverpool Streets, above the World Square shopping precinct, and within walking distance of the central business district, theatres and restaurants and Chinatown.
The property is well positioned for guests travelling to and from Sydney Airport, is close to Central, Town Hall and Museum Railway Stations and has at its doorstep the World Square monorail station, providing guests with fast access to the CBD, Darling Harbour and venues including the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Star City Casino and Cockle Bay Wharf.
The hotel’s new General Manager, Mr Tish Nyar – previously General Manager of Rydges Capital Hill in Canberra – said the property’s central location was a major drawcard for both the business and leisure markets, adding, “For business guests, our facilities include both rooms and suites, executive floors, a 120 square metre fitness centre and broadband internet access in the majority of rooms”.
“We also have four function rooms catering for up to 300 delegates, and one of our first priorities will be to increase our profile as a property of choice for the Sydney CBD meetings and conventions market,” he said.
Mr Nyar said the weekend and holiday leisure market from throughout NSW, plus Victoria and South-East Queensland, was also a major focus of Rydges World Square, which, as part of the expansive AHL group, is related to enterprises including the Greater Union cinemas and the State Theatre.
“Not only will we promote our perfect location in the Sydney CBD, and a range of rooms including five-person family suites – we will also leverage our relationship with partners including Greater Union to develop leisure packages which include cinema passes,” said Mr Nyar.
In addition to extensive accommodation and business facilities, Rydges World Square also features Avery’s Restaurant and Avery’s Bar, for the convenience of both guests and visitors.
Facilities including meeting rooms and the hotel’s restaurant will be progressively upgraded, and new menus, including an Express Breakfast, will be introduced as the Rydges style is infused into the hotel.
