SAA new route to Gabon
South African Airways has announced an enhancement of its services within Africa with a new service to the West African city of Libreville, Gabon with effect from September 19.
According to Thevan Krishna, SAA’s Regional Manager for Australia and New Zealand, the West African region has seen increased interest from both recreational and business travellers, adding, “The new twice-weekly service to Libreville from Johannesburg is part of SAA’s strategic focus on our core operations and is a key growth area for the airline as we continue to build our network on the African continent”.
“SAA will operate two flights per week using Airbus A319 aircraft and will have direct connections to flights originating in Perth and Sydney,” he said.
“SA086 will depart from Johannesburg at 17h00 on Wednesdays and Saturdays and arrive in Libreville at 21h05 with SA087 returning from Libreville at 09h20 and arriving in Johannesburg at 15h25 on Thursdays and Sundays.”
Thevan said that having the most comprehensive network means SAA continues to serve its customers best, particularly within Africa, with over 16 destinations now served directly by the airline.
“Gabon is an important destination for us.” “The country is attracting significant foreign interest as a result of its oil reserves and there are strong and active trade and economic relations with Gabon as a result.”
To celebrate the new route, SAA is offering special fares between Johannesburg and Libreville, available for purchase until 30 November 2007 with travel from 19 September to no later than 30 November 2007.
“We are confident that the launch of the new route to Gabon will enhance our efforts to build the most comprehensive network in Africa, and we look forward to further developments in the future.” Thevan concluded.
