Sales shift at Virgin Blue
Virgin Blue today announced a changing of the guard at the helm of the airline’s National Sales operation with the appointment effective 1 May, 2006 of former Lufthansa executive Mathias Friess to take over the reigns from long term General Manager Sales Jon Marshall.
Mr Marshall, who has headed the Virgin Blue Sales Team since the airline’s first year of operation, has chosen to return to Victoria after five years of commuting in which time he presided over the airline’s sales strategy and structure, recently completing a major expansion in line with the airline’s New World Carrier strategy targeting corporate sector growth.
Brett Godfrey, Chief Executive Officer of Virgin Blue, said “Jon joined Virgin Blue in early 2001 as National Sales Manager to establish our first sales division.”
“He has been a terrific and energetic member of the Virgin Blue team and his contribution to the success of the airline has been significant.”
“He leaves many friends at Virgin Blue with our thanks for a job well done and for steering our sales operation to its next stage of development. We wish him well in the future.”
Mr Friess, who has over 14 years of airline industry experience in key markets of Europe, Latin America and the United States will move from New York to take up his Brisbane based position.
He has worked extensively in pricing and yield management, online sales and distribution and was previously Director of Sales North America for Lufthansa overseeing sales operations in the USA and Canada.
