SAS goes to three classes in Europe

SAS is introducing three-class flights in Europe with the addition of a new Economy Flex class.

The Scandinavian carrier is positioning the new class between economy and an improved business service on European flights from the UK and Ireland from October 31.

Prices on a sample London-Copenhagen return start at £499 in the new cabin – £100 less than regular business class but £400 more than the lowest £99 return economy fare.

SAS claims Economy Flex provides business travellers with the option of the use of business class check-in, fully flexible fares and no restrictions.

The revamped business class includes centre seats blocked on three-seat configurations, three course in-flight meals and the use of business lounges.

Economy travellers will have to buy food and drink on board and the fares offer no rebooking facility or refund. One-way economy fares are to be offered from next year.

Frequent flyer points can be earned at different levels across all three classes.

UK and Ireland general manager Lars-Ove Filipson, said: “With the introduction of our brand new class we are one of the few airlines that is offering business travellers flexibility, efficiency and value for money.”
