“Save the tourists from cattle dung”
Police in Cambodia have reportedly been told to round up cattle and buffalos at a famous tourist site – because their dung is putting off tourists. According to the Sky News website, some 30 of the beasts have been making a mess of the Angkor Wat temple complex as they search for food. Angkor Wat is easily the country’s most famous attraction, having featured in the film Tomb Raider, featuring Angelina Jolie. The move to remove the animals comes after years of complaints, particularly during the dry season, Sky reports. Police chief colonel Tan Chay is quoted as saying: “I have ordered my police to catch the buffalos and cows. Then we will ask their owners to pay a fine. The area needs to be kept as a nice place for the tourists.” He reportedly added that six officers have been detailed to catch the animals and remove them from the site but, so far, just one has been captured.
