Scalded Ryanair passenger wins large payout
A Ryanair passenger who was scalded when a hot cup of tea landed in his lap, forcing him to rip off his trousers in the aisle, has received compensation from the airline.
The 33-year-old suffered burns to his genitals, abdomen, thighs and groin when the drink fell as it was being handed by a member of the cabin crew to another passenger.
Ryanair initially fought his Ronald Furlong’s claim for compensation, insisting it was his own fault for ‘not paying attention’, but the airline has since settled the personal injury claim lodged with the Irish Circuit Civil Court in Dublin.
His barrister told a hearing this week that the airline had agreed to settle and the Irish Times claimed it had paid out up to 38,000 euros.
The court also awarded Mr Furlong his legal costs.
