Scoot plans flights to Hawaii

Sunday, 26 Jul, 2017 0

Fresh from the official start of its merger with Tigerair, Scoot has announced five new routes including the first landing on US soil.

Scoot will launch flights to Honolulu, Hawaii.

Honolulu will become Scoot’s second long haul service after recently launched flights to Athens.

Scoot hopes to fill ‘a big gap in the market’ with Hawaii flights, says CEO Lee Lik Hsin.

The carrier is also ‘carefully considering’ other US destinations along with more flights to Europe, he said.

Scoot hopes to start Hawaii flights this year but that is dependent on discussions with regulatory authorities.

Other new flights planned are to Harbin in China, Kuching, Malaysia and Palembang in Indonesia which will start before the end of 2017.

A further new route to Kuantan, Malaysia will begin in the first half of 2018.

"We have showed that we are clearly serious about long-haul, starting with flights to Europe and now to the US. These will continue to expand but the bulk of the resources will still be on Asia," Lee said.

Embarking on a ‘fairly aggressive growth path’ Scoot plans to double its fleet size within five years.
