SeaWorld San Diego hit with rent arrears lawsuit
SeaWorld San Diego is facing legal action for unpaid rent plus damages of over $12 million to the city.
The city of San Diego has escalated a long dispute over rent of the theme park’s waterfront site.
It filed a lawsuit seeking $12.2 million.
The back rent dates back to the Covid pandemic shutdown and then the restriction on visitor numbers.
The theme park said it had been deferring some payment but the city seems to have run out of patience.
The suit claims breach of lease and the amount they seek includes interest and penalties.
SeaWorld San Diego leases about 190 acres from the city of San Diego.
Mayor Todd Gloria said “SeaWorld needs to pay their bills and they need to pay the city of San Diego.”
