Second Bali tourism official arrested
The arrest of Gede Nurjaya, Bali’s former chief of tourism, has been followed by the detention of one of his former colleagues at Bali tourism, Putra Ambara,.
Ambara has been remanded to Bali’s Kerobokan prison.
According to the Bali Post the legal representatives of Ambara filed a petition seeking his release, based on an understanding that corruption defendants would not be imprisoned if they offered to return the State funds they stole.
The legal team also argued that Ambara wanted to continue his work at the Bali tourism office.
State prosecutors acknowledged receiving the letter seeking Ambara’s release but have kept behind bars.
The allegations against Nurjaya and Ambara are based on allegations that they were reimbursed twice via both provincial and national promotional budgets for the costs of booths at an international travel fair in London.
