Second successive Norwegian Joy sailing hit by outbreak
There was a familiar scenario at the Port of Los Angeles this weekend as the Norwegian Joy docked following a week-long cruise.
Paramedics were in attendance as arriving passengers were checked complaining of ‘a stomach-related illness.’
Nineteen passengers were evaluated but all declined hospital treatment, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
It came a week after several passengers received medical treatment for suspected norovirus-like symptoms.
More than 100 passengers complained of illness during the cruise, although the source is still unknown, according to published data from the CDC.
The ship underwent increased cleaning and disinfection procedures although it seems it hasn’t had the desired effect.
"It raises serious concerns about the hygiene of this ship. If the ship is not cleaned to a point that ensures the health and safety of its passengers, it should not be allowed to leave dock," said Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn.
