Second Westminster terror attack: two taken to hospital, man arrested
Streets outside the Houses of Parliament have been cordoned off this morning while counter-terrorism officers investigate an incident when a car appeared to deliberately plough into cyclists and pedestrians.
Scotland Yard said: "At 07:37hrs today, a car was in collision with barriers outside the Houses of Parliament.
"The male driver of the car was detained by officers at the scene. A number of pedestrians have been injured. Officers remain at the scene.
"At this stage, we are treating this as a terrorist incident and the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command is now leading the investigation."
The man is in police custody at a south London police station and police are searching the vehicle, which is still at the scene, said the BBC.
A London Ambulance Service spokesman said two people were taken to hospital with injuries that were believed to be non-life threatening.
Westminster station is closed for entry and exit, Transport for London said, and is open only for interchange between lines.
Rush-hour traffic was diverted away from the Houses of Parliament. The Supreme Court has also been closed to the public.
