Security breach at Melbourne Airport
Qantas and Jetstar domestic passengers at Melbourne Airport this morning were frustrated by a security lapse that caused chaos in the terminal.
A man who walked through the wrong door from the baggage collection point into the terminal’s sterile area was spotted, but then lost, by closed circuit security cameras.
It meant that previously-screened passengers waiting in the departure lounges had to be evacuated and re-screened, causing flight delays of up to an hour.
A Qantas spokesman called the incident “unfortunate†and said the airline would review its security arrangements in light of the breach.
About 1000 Jetstar passengers were believed to have been affected.
