Security staff strike at 11 Scottish airports
Security staff at 11 Scottish regional airports are due to strike for 48 hours starting at midday today (Tuesday).
Passengers are advised to arrive 15-20 minutes early for flights and limit the amount of luggage they take, and also the amount of liquids they carry.
The Prospect union has called the strike claiming that employer, Highlands and Islands Airport (HIAL), has failed to agree equal pay, holidays and sick pay for airport security workers.
Once the strike has been finished, staff will begin a work to rule.
The union says the strike dates were chosen to minimise disruption over the Easter bank holiday weekend.
HIAL, which is owned by the Scottish Government, says the union has set an ‘entirely arbitrary and unreasonable’ deadline following initial talks.
Managing director Inglis Lyon said: "Whilst we are disappointed that the industrial action is taking place, we have been working hard to develop contingencies to enable the airports to remain open and minimise the amount of disruption for our passengers.
"We would like to thank passengers, in advance, for their co-operation and understanding during this period, and we would also like to thank the local teams for their support and helping it be business as usual."
