See Postmen Promoting Britain on YouTube
VisitBritain have enlisted the help of Royal Mail postmen and women to launch an exclusive guide to Britain. The postmen and women involved have revealed some of their favourite parts of the United Kingdom, via a series of vodcasts hosted on the VisitBritain website.
In another development, an independent new website has been launched offering the services of local people to global travellers. At ourexplorer.com, potential visitors can contact guides and others with local knowledge.
VisitBritain hope that the First Class Guide to Britain will help to entice both domestic and international holiday makers to spend their summer break in the UK this year.
The postmen and women turn presenters as they take viewers on a tour of their daily routes revealing a treasure trove of little known delights across the country. In partnership with VisitBritain, the stunning videos showcase some hidden gems of local knowledge gleaned from years of experience on their respective routes, to help entice domestic and international holiday makers.
Tourism Minister, Margaret Hodge said: “Giving visitors a warm welcome and some friendly advice is one of the best ways in which we can all help tourism in the UK. Capturing the local specialist knowledge from the very people that know the area best is a great way of adding to the experience of visitors, and the ‘First Class Guide to Britain’ sounds like a fantastic way of achieving this.”
Tom Wright, VisitBritain’s Chief Executive is delighted at the link-up: “If a picture tells a thousand words, these films give a personal flavour of the experiences and destinations people can enjoy around the United Kingdom. Although people might be familiar with the locations, Royal Mail have created an insiders’ guide to some of the hidden secrets from around the country.â€
