See which UK airport was voted top in a Cheapflights poll
Cleanliness and the standards of its toilets and check-in helped Newcastle emerge as the best UK airport in a poll of frequent flyers.
The second annual Cheapflights survey, carried out earlier this month, asked 2,550 Brits to rate airports they’ve used during the past year on a range categories including shopping, Wi-Fi access, bar and restaurant facilities, security, and the loos.
Out of 16 UK airports, Newcastle achieved the highest levels of satisfaction across all categories.
London City, reviewed for the first time, was a close runner-up and scored highly for the check-in and security processes as well as immigration and Wi-Fi.
It was followed closely by London City, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Bristol.
London’s other airports – Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted and Luton – continue to lag behind the regions.
Despite coming last overall, Luton has made clear progress since last year with improvements in security, immigration and lounges.
Other London airports consistently fell in the bottom five across many categories, except for shopping, bars and restaurants, where Heathrow, in particular, scored well.
"For many, Britain’s airports are seen as a necessary evil on the way to somewhere hot and sandy during the summer months, and our poll provides some clear signals on areas for improvement," said Cheapflights managing director Andrew Shelton.
"Once again our smaller, regional airports score highest – demonstrating that size isn’t everything and stressing once again that Brits just want to be able to board their flight with the minimum of hassle. That said, it’s great to see London City rank so well as it makes its first appearance in the poll."
