Sharing ecotourism experience in Georgia
International experts gathered in the Georgian capital to develop and work together as a united front for the future of responsible tourism in Europe.
The 5th European Ecotourism Conference was held in Tbilisi, Georgia from 10th to 14th September 2018 with 150 registered participants from 21 countries.
The conference was focused on the advancement of sustainability goals in the tourism industry. Innovative minds were invited to share ideas and solutions from all over the world for inspiring future changes. The three-day conference included sessions and panel discussions about ecotourism and its contribution to poverty reduction, ecotourism and education of future tourism managers, digital storytelling, transboundary trails and cooperation, protected areas as drive for economic development, as well as climate change & European ecotourism.
All presentations are available for free download HERE – along with visual impressions from an engaging conference, where participants not only from Europe but also from the Global Ecotourism Network shared experience and directions to better tourism practices, all in the context of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The hashtag #EuroEco18 leads to a large number of social media reflections.
The Georgian Ecotourism Association rounded the event off by introducing basic rules to reduce the footprint of this international conference. The organisers´ simple implementation steps on how to make such events greener in the future will be published in December.
