SIA keeps its veto on Virgin brand expansion
Singapore Airlines appears set to resist any move to bring the group’s international airlines under the Virgin moniker.
Singapore has a veto on use of the Virgin brand by international airlines because of its stake in Virgin Atlantic.
“It’s not for no reason their trans-Pacific operations are operated as V Australia,” SIA chief executive Chew Choon Seng told The Australian.
“So I think there has been no change in that regard as far as we are concerned.”
The Singapore boss said the airline was still waiting for its “fair dues” when it came to access to the trans-Pacific route.
He said the airline’s case for equal access to the route in the same way Qantas enjoyed flying beyond Singapore was still valid “and therefore we are patiently waiting for ripe apples to fall”.
But he indicated the airline’s enthusiasm for entering the route immediately had diminished with the increased competition that had slashed fares and yields.
