Silversea to foot bill after ship crashes into Key West port

Wednesday, 10 Dec, 2018 0

A docking site at Key West could be out of action for months after a Silversea cruise ship struck it in heavy winds.

The damage to the mooring dolphin at Key West’s Mallory Square could cost $500,000, Key West City Manager Jim Scholl said, as reported by the Miami Herald.

The cruise line will pay for the repairs, Scholl said.

It was damaged by the Silver Spirit on November 27 as it departed.

Heavy winds pushed the ship back against the pier, causing the damage.

Silversea said its ship wasn’t damaged and was then cleared to sail by the US Coast Guard.

"The mooring dolphin is destroyed," said Scholl.

Key West has two other cruise ship docking sites.
