Singapore property agent gets record fine for illegal rentals
A Singapore real estate agent who sublet properties for short-term stays on Airbnb was hit with a fine of S$1.158 million by a Singapore court
It was the largest fine so far issued to an individual for illegal short-term letting, Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Authority said.
Simon Chan Chai Wan also let out the properties on the HomeAway platform. Chan received S$1,2 million from 14 units let out between June 2017 and July 2018. A second real estate agent Zhao Jing. Zhao was fined S$84,000.
Chan pleaded guilty to nine charges under the Planning Act.
