Singapore targets Russian riches
Singapore Airlines will begin flying to Moscow next year to cater for the increasing numbers of Russian tourists looking for Asian adventures.
“We plan to commence operations to Moscow during 2006 but details with regard to the schedule, routing or aircraft type are yet to be finalised,” a spokesman said in an SIA statement.
Russians are increasingly drawn to exotic Asian holiday spots such as Phuket and Hanoi, routes that are already served by the SIA group.
Reflecting their growing disposable incomes, spending by Russian travellers abroad has increased 15.5% per year since 2000.
Unfazed by natural disasters and acts of terrorism, the domestic tourism industry saw its third straight year of growth in 2004, as 16 percent more Russians, over 6.5 million people, ventured abroad to spend their vacations.
