Singapore to allow entry for leisure travellers from Australia and Vietnam

Singapore will put out the welcome mat for visitors from Australia and Vietnam from 8 October.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore said it will allow entry from the countries due to their successful containment of Covid-19.

"The risk of importation from these countries is low," CAAS said.

In the last month Vietnam had no local cases while Australia’s infection rate is 0.02 cases per 100,000 people, not including the state of Victoria.

They join New Zealand and Brunei as the only countries allowed non-essential travel access.

Visitors from Australia, not including Victoria, and Vietnam can now apply for the Air Travel Pass which allows short-term leisure travel.

Visitors must take a swab test upon arrival, and can travel around freely after a negative test result is confirmed.

It is unclear how many, if any, travellers will come from Australia as its national borders are still effectively closed and all citizens must apply for special permission to leave the country.

This has so far only been granted for essential reasons such as family emergencies overseas.

CAAS said it has approved 331 applications from travellers from Brunei and New Zealand since it lifted restrictions from those countries on 8 September.
