Singapore Tourism Board suspends six travel agencies
The Singapore Tourism Board has suspended the licenses of six more travel agencies for failing to file their audited statements of accounts in time.
Under mandatory rules they were suspended after not submitting accounts within six months of the end of the financial year.
The agencies were named as Alert Co, Success Express, RJ Travels, Sai Universal Holidays, Szimsai Holidays Events and TIS365.
"STB takes a serious view against errant travel agents, and will not hesitate to take necessary actions to protect the reputation of Singapore’s travel industry," STB said.
Singapore’s Travel Agents Regulations are among the strictest in Asia and are designed to ensure peace of mind and credibility for the island state’s travel industry.
STB takes the view that failure to submit accounts ‘raises concern over a company’s ability to meet the minimum financial requirements.’
There have been several high profile abrupt closures of travel agencies in the past few years leaving customers out of pocket.
The six travel agencies will remain suspended until their accounts are submitted and audited or for a minimum of six months before the STB will decide to take further action.
