Singapore’s hot new hub is buzzing!
After months of anticipation, Singapore’s eagerly awaited mega attractions – VivoCity and St James PowerStation – are officially open for business. An extravagant launch party set the scene for the hip new retail, lifestyle and nightlife complexes, which are set to further boost Singapore’s profile as a global shopping and party destination.
Located in Singapore’s prime southern HarbourFront Precinct, VivoCity is the proud centrepiece, sprawling over 1.04 million square feet of retail space, while St James PowerStation is the Lion City’s fabulous new nine-venue nightlife destination.
“Both venues are world class and join together to further enhance Singapore’s reputation as an international relaxation and lifestyle hotspot,” said Mr Kevin Leong, Regional Director Oceania, Singapore Tourism Board.
“In fact Singapore was recently ranked second in the world for its nightlife, shopping and dining offering and both VivoCity and St James PowerStation are clear examples of the island nation’s commitment to on-going evolution and development,” added Mr Leong.
VivoCity
Much more than a shopping complex, in addition to its 300 retail outlets, VivoCity is home to an outdoor amphitheatre, open-air playground, rooftop sky park, permanent art displays, a full calendar of enthralling festivals and events, immense open plaza and 300-metre harbourfront promenade.
Designed by world-renowned architect Toyo Ito, VivoCity’s structure was inspired by its unique harbourfront location, evoking images of waves in the sea. An iconic, world-class destination, VivoCity takes its name from “vivacity” and is already stimulating local and foreign visitors with its unrivalled mix of activities and electric atmosphere.
Dine alfresco, splash out with the kids at the rooftop sky park with its vast water feature spanning the area of four Olympic-sized pools, or enjoy a laid-back waterfront stroll along the promenade.
Just a five-minute drive from Singapore’s CBD, and a short 10 minutes from Orchard Road, VivoCity’s retail experience caters for everyone, with stores ranging from fashion to homeware, toys to entertainment. The centre also houses new concept stores and just-launched labels not found anywhere else in Singapore. Popular shops include Esprit, Marks and Spencer, Toys r Us, Gap, Ted Baker, Coulisse and Every Woman.
Cementing its reputation as a cultural and lifestyle destination, VivoCity’s rooftop amphitheatre is fully equipped with the latest lighting and sound technology, and will be used to showcase Singapore’s vibrant arts and music scene with a busy schedule of concerts, dance and cultural shows. And its three professionally designed event spaces, with absolute top of the range facilities will attract both MICE events and casual exhibitions, luring visitors from around the world.
St James PowerStation
Entertainment and action come first at the incredible St James PowerStation, a massive, lively and soon to be legendary one-stop clubbing destination which is home to nine themed entertainment concepts to satisfy every age and taste.
Magnificently housed within Singapore’s first coal-fired power station, built in 1927, the historic St James PowerStation has been completely transformed into a 60,000 square foot premium-grade entertainment complex.
Pay just one cover charge to enjoy all nine distinct venues – if you can last the distance! Unwind and revel in the sounds of world music at Movida, release your inner popstar at karaoke club Mono, or step back in time with live jazz and big band in the Bellini Room. Powerhouse is the spot to work up a sweat with the latest hip dance beats, while other outlets will swarm your senses with a mix of live bands and DJs spinning alternative rock and R&B.
With room capacities ranging from 250 to 1000 you can enjoy an intimate night out with your partner or go large and enjoy the carnival atmosphere of a packed dance floor and disco beat.
