Site finds haunted hostels
HostelBookers, which claims to be the only major budget accommodation website in the travel industry that does not apply a service charge, has named the best haunted hotels worldwide. They include:
—In San Diego, USA Hostels, located near a range of bars and restaurants in the heart of the Gaslamp District, is renowned for housing a brothel in the late 18th century.” It is common to hear stories about the lights going on and off without reason, unexplained breezes and more,” the site says.
—Centrally located in Canada’s capital, Hi-Ottawa Jail delivers a unique overnight experience. It just so happens to be the only hostel in North America located in a former prison (one that operated for over 100 years). “Sleeping in former jail cells, the prison hospital, or maybe even in the governor’s quarters, guests will experience what life was really like for prison inmates,” the site says.
—Set in a creepy old Scottish castle in Europe, Carbisdale is an authentic haunted hostel. The grounds are rumored to be visited by a mysterious lady in white, while the mournful wail of bagpipes are said to be heard wafting through the air.
The site, which has over 20,000 hostels and budget properties worldwide, says it charges on average 8.7 percent less than its nearest competitors.
