Six reasons why Seattle shines as an arts epicenter

Sunday, 22 Mar, 2023 0

The Seattle arts scene is a force to be reckoned with.

A destination renowned for its cultural connections and for producing some of the greatest artists in the world, every traveller needs to add this vibrant city to their bucket list.

Chihuly Garden and Glass

Located at the Seattle Centre, Chihuly Garden and Glass combines nature with the intricate art of glass blowing. One of the best known artists in the field, Dale Chihuly has presented his comprehensive collection of works through exhibitions, garden installations and intricate galleries. The centerpiece can be found in the Glasshouse; a striking, 100-feet long sculpture in vivid shades of red, yellow and amber. Families can learn about the art and life of Chilhuly at one of the gallery talks, which are held daily.

Seattle Art Museum

Just a short walk from Pike Place Market, Seattle Art Museum invites art connoisseurs to wander through global and Northwest art collections, temporary installations, and exciting exhibitions from around the world.

History at MOHAI

Through compelling exhibits, MOHAI is at the heart of Seattle’s culture, offering visitors an insight into the Puget Sound region’s extensive history. From the Ground Up: Black Architects and Designers explores the past, present and future of architectural talent, whilst educating guests about pioneering creations from black architects throughout history.

The Crocodile

Named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of “The Best Clubs in America”, The Crocodile is a music lover’s haven. In the 90s, The Crocodile was the hot spot for every grunge band and their fans. Supporting aspiring artists such as Green Day, The Strokes, and Nirvana, these walls have seen some of the most iconic shows in music history. The 1,150 capacity venue is still an unparalleled, independent music sanctuary for artists and fans alike. It’s a must visit for every music fan.

The Showbox

With two locations, (Pike Place Market and SoDo), The Showbox offers a plethora of music genres. Originally opening in 1939, the venue is designed in art-deco style and has been delivering everything from Jazz Age acts, to the city’s famous Grunge era bands right through to the current wave of Seattle talents.

Pacific Northwest Ballet

Founded in 1972, the Pacific Northwest Ballet  is now gracing audiences under the artistic leadership of Peter Boal – a well-regarded former dancer who hailed from the New York City Ballet.
