Skal Sydney loses the spirit of Christmas?
Skal Sydney members appear to be not very happy about a proposed plan by the travel industry club which involves rather than giving gifts or raising money for the needy at their Christmas lunch, with the club, which has seen declining membership and attendance numbers over recent years, intending to give gifts to each other.
With members asking if the Club has rather lost site of the spirit of Christmas, they are also asking isn’t Christmas about giving, not receiving?
Across the harbour at North Sydney Skal, members and guests attending their Christmas lunch are all being asked to bring two cans of food to put under the Christmas tree with members delivering the donations to the wayside chapel after the lunch.
As one North Sydney member told The Mole, “These less fortunate people are so appreciative of the effort and our members can be justly proud that instead of giving each other free rooms and tickets that are hardly needed anyway, on at least one day of the year we give something to the needy without any strings or thoughts of something in return.”
Apparently Skal Sydney is not so thoughtful, with their plans apparently involving approaching all their members through various mailing lists appealing for prizes to be given to members at the Skal Sydney Christmas lunch.
The Mole is told that the request will ask for prizes including events, hotels, airlines, travel etc,
Interesting approach, but it does not seem to be in the spirit of Chrismas and it appears some of the members don’t think so either!
Maybe my source is wrong – I hope so!
