Ski Club to add more resorts to snow report

Tuesday, 25 Nov, 2015 0

The Ski Club of Great Britain will provide snow reports for 23 more resorts across Europe and North America this winter, taking the total to 267.

Feedback from members, new resort developments and a full review of the featured resorts has led to the changes, said the club.

All of the new resorts will be reported on every weekday from now until April 29 next year, along with the existing resorts.

Three new countries have been added, with this winter’s reports covering Rosa Khutor in Russia, Jasna in Slovakia and Spridleruv Mlyn in the Czech Republic for the first time.

All three resorts have seen impressive levels of investment recently, with new high-speed lifts, hotels and apartments being built every year, said the Ski Club.

Seven additional resorts in Austria have been added following a 16.4% growth in UK skiers visiting the country since 2009.

These are Damüls/Mellau and Silvretta Montafon, Dorfgastein and Maria Alm in the Ski Amade area, St Christoph and Warth-Schröcken in the Arlberg and the family resort of Rauris in the Salzburg region.

Four French resorts have been added, two of which are in the Chamonix Valley – one of the most popular regions for British holidaymakers. The ski areas of Les Houches and Vallorcine, at opposing ends of the valley, are to be reported on separately this season which is vital for when the upper areas are closed in bad weather.

In addition, Champagny over the back of La Plagne and Morillon in the Grand Massif will be included.

Two resorts in the Sella Ronda ski area have been included too – Alta Badia and Campitello, increasing the number of resorts reported on in the area to five.

The snowsure resort of Kronplatz will also be reported on, taking the number of Italian resorts to 31.

Several resorts are set to be reported on for the first time, including Happo’one/Hakuba in Japan, La Molina in the Spanish Pyrenees and El Tartar – Grandvalira in Andorra.

In addition, all three resorts in the Banff area of Canada (Lake Louise, Mt Norquay and Sunshine Village) will be covered separately throughout the winter, reflecting the different conditions experienced at each resort.

Finally, a few resorts will merge and will be reported on together. These include Serfaus and Fiss in Austria, Adelboden and Lenk and Leysin and Les Mosses in Switzerland.

Following the merger of Park City and Canyons in Utah, the newly formed Park City Mountain Resort will be reported on as one entity.
