SKI: There’s a storm brewing
Snow for the south-western Alps
A Mediterranean storm will bring snow to the southern French and south-western Italian Alps today, otherwise most other regions will be dry with the best of any sunshine further north and east…
The snow will be heaviest in the far south of the French Alps where 30cm or more is possible in Isola 2000. Some snow is also likely in resorts such as Risoul and Montgenevre in France, Sauze d’Oux and Sestriere in Italy but this is likely to be the northernmost extent of any significant falls.
On the margins of this storm will be resorts such as Val d’Isere, Courmayeur, Cervinia and the Monte Rosa region. Here it may start bright today but cloud will increase later with the odd light flurry in places. The rest of the Alps will be mostly dry and bright with plenty of sunshine, especially at altitude. However, it will remain cold, right across the Alps, as it will do for the rest of the week before milder air starts to return over the weekend.
