Smoke alarm in cockpit grounds Emirates jet

Emirates flight EK6 was forced to make an emergency landing in Budapest, Hungary, late on Wednesday, after smoke detectors identified smoke in the cockpit.

The Boeing 777-300, flying the London-Dubai route, was grounded following the cockpit sensor alarm, according to the Budapest International Airport press and business relations officer, Mihaly Hardy.

Upon landing, the smoke warning ceased. It is believed that the smoke alarm was the effect of a short circuit, Xinhua reports.

The 380 passengers were unharmed, and a replacement aircraft was conveyed to Budapest, causing a 16 hour delay, according to the Aviation Herald.

Hardy explained that all passengers with children were provided with accommodation options whilst waiting for the replacement plane.
