Smoke grenades discovered in passenger’s carry-on bag
TSA screeners at Newark Liberty International Airport discovered six smoke grenades in a passenger’s carry-on bag.
After taking the unnamed passenger’s bag to one side, the banned items were found neatly wrapped in bubble wrap.
Christopher Murgia, TSA’s deputy federal security director pointed out that the smoke bombs are not illegal but are forbidden from being brought on an airplane.
"If released, smoke would fill the cabin and cause panic among the passengers and crew and possibly get into the cockpit," he said.
No charges were filed.
The passenger handed over the offending items to a non-traveling friend and was then allowed to take his flight to the Dominican Republic.
