Snowed under in Val d’Isere despite naysayers

Friday, 09 May, 2007 0

The winter season officially ended on Tuesday but Val d’Isère, in spite of the scathing British media surrounding snow conditions in Europe, enjoyed a good season due to the high altitude in the Haute Tarentaise.

The resort experienced fluffy powder and corduroy groomed pistes over the last few months and many a sunny day. The town burst into life with such events as the French Alpine Skiing Championships in March. In 2009 the World Alpine Ski Championships will come to town.

Summertime sees Val d’Isère and its locals relax for a few months and return to their traditional alpine roots where the events of the day are the local flower market, the pétanque tournament and the fly fishing contest.

The International 4×4 motor and leisure show will be coming to Val d’Isère in July where all the major specialists will be showcasing their current and new 4×4 models. All can be tried and tested on the Bellevarde.

Also in July the 9th stage of the Tour de France will start from Val d’Isère. The cyclists will be enduring a grueling 161km stretch from Val d’Isère to Briançon with the immediate challenge being the Col de L’Iséran. Check out the itinery on http://www.letour.fr/.
