“…….So this is how the world perceives the wonderful Fiji Islands…..”

Saturday, 17 Jan, 2007 0

There is no doubt that one of Fiji’s most desirable secluded resorts, nestled on the beach, amongst the Palm trees, is Tokoriki.

The Mole was told that name Tokoriki comes from an old fable and means ‘to stay a while’ and its clear that the name is true to form having endured for a long time, with for many years travellers from Australia and New Zealand having sought rest, relaxation and the perfect tropical romantic holiday………..far from the madding crowds.

Today, guests from North America, Europe and all over the world journey to Fiji, with its reputation for being a safe travel destination with the friendliest people in the world and to Tokoriki, whose reputation has also become legendary.

So, what makes Tokoriki Island Resort so special and what sets it apart from some of the other offshore island resorts?

You would expect somewhere liek Tokoriki to have tropical white sandy beaches, crystal clear water and extensive fringing reef with beach access from your own private bures.  There’s also great snorkelling and world class scuba diving, both around the island and further offshore.  Expert local Fijian fishing guides, will take you offshore for some Blue-water catche and Tokoriki follows a ‘tag and release’ policy or if you prefer, one of their Chefs will prepare your catch of the day for your very own – private dinner.

Guest accommodation at Tokoriki is all beachfront and all free-standing, which is great for views and great for privacy.

All villas and bures have king-sized beds, air-conditioning and private outdoor showers, which Tokoriki says no other Fiji resort can boast they have.

What really makes Tokoriki Island Resort unique is the absolute intimacy of the resort and friendliness of the Fijians.  Guests are invited to take a short boat trip to Yanuya, the nearby home to the resort staff and tt’s here that guests experience authentic, traditional village life and they will almost certainly be invited to enjoy a traditional feast cooked underground, which is called a Lovo, which is also often prepared back at the resort as part of the range of cuisine on offer at the tranquil, outdoor restaurant.

Honeymoon guests Tim and Ailsa Williams from the UK summed up Tokoriki by saying:

“Our 10 days were simply fantastic”

“We could not have hoped for more and in fact it exceeded our expectations in so many ways.”

“We have stayed in 5* hotels and resorts all over the world but the personal touches throughout our stay and the friendliest and warmest staff we have ever met, without exception, made our stay memorable and beyond belief.”

“We ended up taking the helicopter transfer both ways which added to the comfort”.

“We are both speechless”

Brits, builder Marcus and stylist Nicole, pictured with Tokoriki owner Aussie Andrew Turnbull told The Mole that they had chosen Matamanoa but it was full and they had to stay in Tokoriki and while they were sure that Matamanoa was great, Tokoriki was absolutely what they needed and wanted, with great food, great location and fantastic staff – quite incredible.

As a couple with no kids, not having under 12’s at Tokoriki was very important for them and made the holiday very peaceful and reinvigorating, preparing them for back to work in London, with Fiji so relaxing and so different.  They also said that they had no worries at all about coming to Fiji and had seen nothing to make them nervous or concerned.

As they say in Fiji and in Tokoriki – Ni Sa Moce….Loloma Yani… Goodbye and love to all, which sums up what Tokoriki and Fiji is all about.
