Some thoughts on Indonesia’s aviation record

Sunday, 09 Mar, 2007 0

www.crikey.com.au gave us all some food for thought yesterday by suggesting that if we typed in the words “Indonesia”, “airlines”, “safety” and “crashes” into Google we would have a big of a shock!

The search reveals 145,000 results, including these:

** Fatal events since 1970 for Garuda Indonesia Airways.  Airsafe.com

** Indonesia air safety profile.  Aviation Safety Network

** Recent Airline Accidents in Indonesia.  Examiner.com

** Indonesia to ban old jetliners. Boston Herald

** Indonesia’s terrible air safety record. The Telegraph

** The High Risk of Travel in Indonesia. Asia Sentinel

** Indonesian air safety under spotlight following crash.  Channel News Asia

www.crikey.com.au goes on to say that as Indonesians and Australians again grieve over an Indonesian airline tragedy, perhaps it’s time for some neighbourly assistance, from the country with possibly the world’s safest airline system to the country with possibly the worst.
