South African Tourism welcomes new Australia appointments
As South African Tourism continues to consolidate its mandate to market South Africa as a world-class destination of choice, the organisation is pleased to announce a number of strategic new appointments to its team in Australia.
Janaya Birse, who was formerly Trade Relations Manager, has been appointed Marketing and Communications Manager with effect from 1 August. Her new responsibilities will include being the point of contact for public relations / advertising agencies, trade and media in Australia.
She will also be required to ensure the accuracy and consistency of South African Tourism’s brand positioning across all messaging and communications.
In yet another move, Eric Baravilala has joined the South African Tourism team as International Business Tourism Manager. His principal duty will be to implement South African Tourism’s Strategy to drive incremental and exponential growth for the tourism industry.
He will also be required to embrace the Tourism Growth Strategy, take on board all strategic research material and other authentic sources of information, and translate these into a country specific strategy and a detailed implementation plan.
Baravilala will be responsible for presenting and selling the strategy to management, and obtaining buy-in from all key stakeholders critical for successful and effective implementation.
In September 2006, Candice Elsdon-Dew will be appointed Trade Relations Manager: Australia, where she will be ultimately responsible for trade relations with the Australian market, developing relationships with media and disseminating marketing collateral into relevant intercept points.
She will also be required to manage budget expenditure according to the business plan and implement cost saving measures.
According to Bangu Masisi, South African Tourism’s General Manager: Australasia, “Australian arrivals to South Africa are growing at a steady pace, and the potential this market holds for South Africa is enormous. The additional staff will create more room for us to deliver quality service to the market and even better support to our partners.”
“I would like to welcome all our new appointees and I am confident that they will work towards realising South African Tourism’s goals in Australia.”
