South Korea holding ‘K-pop academy’ courses around the world

Monday, 16 Mar, 2016 0
South Korea will conduct a ‘K-pop academy’ for foreigners at 20 of its overseas cultural centres this year.

In a move to export contemporary Korean culture to a wider audience, visitors to the 20 centres in 18 countries will get a taste of the K-pop phenomenon.

"Overseas ‘hallyu’ fans will have a chance to learn their favourite K-pop songs and dances from South Korea’s top-level teaching staff at the K-pop academy," Park Younggoog, chief of the Korean Culture and Information Service said.

Korean centres in Thailand, India, Spain, France, Mexico, Turkey, the US, Germany, Vietnam and Indonesia are among the countries offering the programme.

Along with the opportunity to learn K-pop songs and dance moves, it will also showcase Korean TV and film and traditional food.

Two different K-pop academy courses will take place at most centres – an elementary course for complete beginners and an intermediate course.

It kicks off this week with the first programme at the Korean Cultural Center in Shanghai.
