Southwest flights at Denver International begin in January
Southwest Airlines starting 3 January will offer 13 daily nonstop flights to Chicago, Las Vegas and Phoenix when it begins serving Denver International Airport, according to airline officials.
The airline will offer four daily flights to Chicago’s Midway Airport, five to Las Vegas and four to Phoenix.
“The expanding carrier has avoided Denver’s airport for more than a decade because of high costs, but officials reconsidered because of recent declines,” said the Rocky Mountain News.
The Dallas-based airline left Denver’s Stapleton Airport two decades ago, in part because of delays.
The airline has focused recent expansions in the eastern US, the newspaper said.
The Denver airport has lowered costs by hiring freezes and budget cuts, which has helped lure Southwest back.
Denver is the fifth busiest airport in the country, behind Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and Dallas-Fort Worth, based on a report from the Airports Council international of Geneva. Denver is 10th in the world.
