Southwest opening Austin, TX crew base
Southwest Airlines is giving the city of Austin Texas an economic boost.
The airline announced it will open a new crew base at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in March 2026.
This will generate more than 2,000 jobs by 2027, it says.
These will be about 335 pilots and 650 flight attendants, as well as support and administrative teams.
Southwest Airlines also plans to establish a flight attendant training facility at the airport for its wider cabin crew workforce.
The airline says it had been in talks for months with Austin city officials and state economic development officers.
Southwest has its roots in Texas, established in Dallas more than 50 years ago.
