Spanish operator plans to compete with Eurostar on London-Paris route
Anglo-French high-speed rail operator Eurostar could get its first true rail rival on the flagship London-Paris route.
Spain’s state-run rail company Renfe plans to compete with Eurostar between Paris and London. Renfe says there are available slots and capacity to operate on the high-speed line, and its post-Covid customer demand analysis suggests it would be ‘viable and profitable for Renfe to compete with Eurostar.’
Renfe said it has already received support from Channel tunnel operator Getlink. It has begun ‘initial contacts’ but hasn’t put a timeframe on a potential launch.
