SpiceJet first to offer in-flight Wi-Fi in India
Indian carrier Spicejet says it will be the first airline in the country to offer in-flight Wi-Fi.
It expects to begin offering Wi-Fi once it receives government approval and it will likely be free to flyers.
"We have also selected a service provider and as soon as government approvals come passengers will be able to use Wi-Fi on board, most probably from next month," said SpiceJet CMD Ajay Singh.
Systems are currently being fitted on its new Boeing 737 Max aircraft.
Singh said he hopes it will be offered free to customers and funded through advertisements.
As well as data surfing, voice calls may also be allowed.
SpiceJet unveiled the Wi-Fi plans during an official induction ceremony last week of its first Boeing 737 MAX jet.
The new aircraft’s range will allow the airline to venture further internationally, such as Hong Kong and Eastern Europe.
