Spirit Airlines drops a dozen routes
With cash strapped Spirit Airlines reverting back to bankruptcy survival mode, it announced it is cutting 11 more routes.
It recently announced it would struggle to stay in the air long term without a cash injection and re-entered bankruptcy protection for the second time in just a few months.
The airline is dropping routes serving Albuquerque, Birmingham, Alabama, Boise, Idaho, Chattanooga, Tennessee, Columbia, SC, Oakland, Portland, Oregon Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Diego (SAN) and San Jose.
These will all be permanently dropped by October 2.
Additionally, the upcoming flight launch to Middle Georgia Regional Airport next month is scrapped.
“We apologize to our guests for any inconvenience this may cause and will reach out to those with affected reservations,” the airline said.
“We are grateful to the airports, business partners and community members in these markets who welcomed and supported us.”
Customers will be offered the option of a full refund.
The airline has cited fierce competition and falling demand for leisure travel.
