Spirit Airlines launching first international routes from New Orleans
Spirit Airlines is expanding its reach in New Orleans with its first international routes.
Starting June 10, Crescent City residents can jet off to Cancun.
The following day the carrier launches service to San Pedro Sula, Honduras three times a week.
It offers connecting services to Honduras on other days of the week.
Spirit says New Orleans has one of the largest populations of Hondurans in the US.
"Our guests asked us for international connectivity, and we are excited to offer them as they explore new places," said Ted Christie, president, and CEO of Spirit Airlines.
Spirit launched at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport back in 2013 and will now offer 22 domestic and international destinations.
It carried about 1.7 million passengers last year at MSY which is up 20% on 2018.
Spirit also announced it is increasing frequency to Orlando from New Orleans with an extra daily flight from April 22.
