Spirit Airlines’ punctuality plummets
June was not a banner month for punctuality at low cost carrier Spirit Airlines with more than half of all flights late, according to the latest US Department of Transportation report.
Spirit flights reached their destination within 15 minutes of expected arrival time only 49.9% of the time in June.
It was the worst on-time performance by a major airline for a decade.
The report said on six routes served by Spirit, delays averaged at more than two hours.
United Airlines had the second-worst for on-time arrivals at 66.3%.
Hawaiian Airlines again led the way with 90.5%, followed by Alaska Airlines, Delta and Virgin America, which all scored above 80% punctuality.
The report says overall on-time arrivals for all US airlines was 74.8%, up 3% compared to June of last year.
Unsurprisingly, Spirit also topped the rankings in the highest number of complaints, with an average 19.16 complaints filed for every 100,000 passengers flown.
