Spirit Airlines rolls out first self-service bag drop at Las Vegas
Low cost carrier Spirit Airlines launched new routes to Burbank and Sacramento, California out of Las Vegas and also rolled out the first automated self-service bag drop at McCarran International Airport.
Spirit claims it is the first of its kind for a US domestic carrier.
The system, located at Terminal 1, allows travelers to pay for and self-tag their bags at an automated kiosk.
They then can drop their bags onto automated belts after producing their personal ID.
"We are pleased to partner with Spirit Airlines as we pilot this new automated self-service bag drop system," said Clark County Aviation director Rosemary Vassiliadis.
There is just one self-service bag drop station so far but the airline hopes to increase it to six by the year-end, said Spirit’s VP of airport services, Mike Byrom.
Byrom says the pilot scheme has been a big success so far.
He says with six stations, about 80% of all passengers will be able to use the automated machines.
