Spirit Airlines signs 100-jet Airbus order
Budget carrier Spirit Airlines has inked a big tentative order for 100 new Airbus jets.
The memorandum of understanding is for a mix of Airbus A319, A320, and A321 jets as well as an option for 50 more.
They would be delivered through 2027.
Spirit is a big Airbus client.
It currently operates 138 Airbus A320 family aircraft and has seven Airbus A320neo aircraft due for delivery by the end of the year.
"This new order represents another milestone. The additional aircraft will be used to support Spirit’s growth as we add new destinations and expand our network across the U.S, Latin America and the Caribbean" said Spirit Airlines’ president and CEO Ted Christie.
Spirit claims to operate one of the youngest aircraft fleets in the industry with an average age of obly 5.6 years.
Later the year Spirit will present part of its ‘Invest in the Guest’ initiative with a new cabin design with new padded seats, and slightly more legroom.
The middle seat is also getting an extra inch of width.
