Spirit raises bag fees for holiday flights

Monday, 22 Sep, 2014 0

Fresh from unveiling a new bright yellow look for its fleet of 35 aircraft, Spirit Airlines will help fund the new paint job by increasing bag fees over the holiday season.

On its website Spirit says it will raise bag fees by $2 for flights between December 18 and January 5.

First checked bag fees range from $20 when booked online in advance to up to $100 at the gate on the day of departure.

The hike is to "encourage customers to pack a bit lighter" and ensure there is room for all during the peak holiday season.

Members of the $9 Fare Club will be exempt from the increased fee.

Infamous for its ‘Bare Fare’ promotions, Spirit has a completely unbundled business model, with added fees payable for all carry on and checked bags, seat assignments and onboard snacks and drinks.
