Spirit wing clip fault of air traffic control
Spirit Airlines has issued a statement saying that the New Year’s Eve incident in which a Spirit plane that was taxiing on the runway at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport clipped the wing of a parked and empty US Airways plane was due to air traffic control error.
Spirit Airlines says air traffic control did not advise their pilot of the "presence of other aircraft." The airline’s internal investigation showed that the air traffic control tower was not aware of the US Airways A320’s close location to the landing Spirit aircraft.
No passengers or crew were on the US Airways plane and no Spirit passengers were hurt either. The National Transportation Safety Board will not investigate because the incident has been deemed "minor."
