Sporting events for agents
Minnesota-based travel agent Roger Miller has an unusual niche: sports figures.
“Believe it or not, they’re easier to deal with than business executives,” he said.
Mr Miller has a dozen agents in his suburban Minneapolis-based agency that handle all types of travel.
“If we had a secret to our success, it’s diversification,” he said.
Mr Miller got into the sports figure niche after handling travel for the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings and other local sport franchises.
It helps that his agency, Minnetonka Travel, is in an affluent suburb comparable to Palm Beach that is able to support several travel agencies.
It also helps that Mr Miller’s agency is a strong golf proponent.
The Minneapolis area with perhaps 500 golf courses is among the most active golf destinations in the world, despite its reputation for cold weather.
The golf season generally lasts from April to mid-November. “Though we sometimes can play in January,” said Mr Miller.
In the winter, the area is known for its Chili Open. Held each February, the tournament is played on the frozen Lake Minnetonka.
