Sports Illustrated finds Portugal photogenic

Portugal this year for the first time made the list: The US’s 2010 annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.

“The 2010 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue comes out at a time when media outlets are calling Portugal a close and an affordable tourism destination, including recent reports by Hotels.com, Hotel Index and Trivago Hotel Price Index,” said a press release from tourism officials.

Locations included:

• Miles of golden sand beaches near the capital city of Lisbon.

• Beautiful rivers such as the Zezere and Tejo.

• One of the finest Renaissance palaces in Portugal — the 500-year-old Quinta de Bacalhoa, which is also famous for its wine.

”Additionally, Portugal’s 100-plus unique grape varieties, its ancient history and culture combined with modern hotels integrated into the landscape show progress while maintaining the charm of the ancient culture,” according to tourism officials.
