Star Alliance under one roof in Tokyo

Star Alliance airlines are moving into new state-of-the-art facilities at Tokyo’s Narita Airport.

They will share what is claimed to be the biggest dedicated Star Alliance branded terminal in Asia in the south wing of the the airport’s Terminal 1 from today.

The 10 member airlines will offer almost 800 flights a week to 30 destinations in 15 countries.

ANA, Air Canada, Asiana Airlines, Austrian, Lufthansa, SAS, Swiss, Singapore Airlines, Thai and United Airlines will share the terminal. Only Air New Zealand will remain in Terminal 2 until further notice, according to the alliance.

The check-in area has been organised in zones according to class of travel in addition to 120 self-service units for auotmated check-in.

The alliance claims minimum connection times will be reduced from 110 minutes to 45 minutes for international flights, from 130 minutes to 60 minutes for domestic-international flights and from 110 minutes to 75 minutes for international-domestic flights.

Star Alliance is working to move member airlines into single locations in Bangkok, London Heathrow, Los Angeles, Madrid, Miami and Paris.

CEO Jaan Albrecht said: “Completing the co-location here is Narita is a milestone in our worldwide ‘Move under one Roof’ strategy.”
